Signs of driving fatigue

Filling the gas tank, getting enough snacks, checking the tire pressure, and having accurate directions are excellent ways of preparing for road trips. What a lot of people overlook on their road trip checklist is getting enough sleep. Without proper rest, drivers can experience fatigue, which can quickly result in catastrophic or fatal accidents.

It may seem like driver fatigue is not a significant problem, but many people fall victim to it and suffer considerable consequences. One of the best ways of avoiding driving while fatigued is recognizing the signs of fatigue. Some signs are easier to spot than others, so what are the uncommon signs?

Daydreaming

You may think that a wandering mind is a sign of boredom on the road, but it can also be a sign of drowsiness. A tired mind as a reduced ability to focus, making it easier for a mind to drift into unrelated thoughts.

Diminished driving performance

Missing your exit, failing to signal, and neglecting to look before merging are all common errors that fatigued drivers experience. When a driver is tired, they are less likely to maintain the proper driving skills necessary to stay safe.

Driving speed variations

As drivers lose focus of what they are doing because they are tired, they may not be aware of what speed they are driving at. This careless driving can result in the driver either gradually speeding up or slowing down.

Stiffness or cramping

Long road trips can take a toll on the driver. It can be easy for drivers to recognize that they are growing stiff or experiencing cramping, but not understand why. These signs can also indicate fatigue rather than just the consequences of sitting in a small space for a long time.

Do not ignore the signs

Fatigue comes with many typical signs, including yawning, heavy eyes, and beginning to nod off. It is essential to stay vigilant and recognize the common and uncommon signs of fatigue. If you spot any of these signs while driving, do the right thing and pull over before getting into a significant accident.
