Domestic assault is a serious criminal offense in Tennessee and Kentucky. The broader term domestic violence includes domestic assault as well as harassment, terrorist threats and emotional abuse. Although men are most often accused of domestic assault against women, anyone can be accused of domestic assault against a:

  • Person related by blood
  • Person related by marriage
  • Person with whom he or she had a child

When the police are called to a domestic dispute, they determine the aggressor party and remove that person from the premises. A temporary restraining order or order of protection is issued against the individual and stays in effect until a more formal court hearing is scheduled.
